Location: New York, NY

Animoto is looking for a jaw-droppingly awesome designer to take ownership of the look-and-feel of our flagship site, Animoto.com, as well as our other various products and platforms. We’re well-funded (VC round in June 2009) but we’re still small, so it’s a great time to come on board as we grow like crazy in 2010. You’ll be our first full-time designer.
Your plate will be full. You’ll direct the creation of our brand/style guide, then work to bring our current web site into conformity. You’ll simultaneously be designing new features for our various customer segments and revamping pages seen by millions of people each month. Print marketing, pixel-perfect graphic production, and web/UI design will all fall on your plate. You’ll have to internalize our brand, then contribute to the critical decisions that decide where it goes.
But here’s the catch: we need the best. We’ve won every sort of award, from the Webbys to SXSW to the Crunchies (Best Design this year!), and we’ve been covered by all sorts of media, NY Times and USA Today and TechCrunch among others. Your work will uphold our reputation while pushing Animoto’s design forward into the coming decade.
Responsibilities
• Directing the creation of a brand guide and standardizing all current web pages
• Redesigning big-ticket items like our homepage
• Planning and designing new features in a fast-paced, iterative workflow
• A/B and multivariate testing/adaptation through distinct design decisions
• Delivering print marketing assets as needed (maybe 10% of your time)
• As we expand, taking on design challenges of new environments like Facebook, iPhone, and other mobile/social platforms
Requirements:
• Exceptional creativity in web design
• Strong sense of layout/composition, typography, and aesthetic coherence
• Deep understanding of the web space, designing both form and function
• Thorough awareness of emerging web, social, and technical design trends
• Understanding of print assets (resolution/dpi, color spaces, gutter/bleed, etc)
• Master of Photoshop, Illustrator, and the Universe
• A winning personality: eager, motivated, collaborative, engaging, and most importantly, detail-oriented
• 3+ years as a web/mobile/app user experience team member, participating in the complete product development lifecycle
• 5+ years of professional web-design experience
• Willingness to work in New York City
• An online portfolio
If you really want to kick arse, here’s what would be nice
• An art degree
• Design proficiencies on multiple platforms, such as the iPhone
• Adobe Flash animation sensibilities and chops
• Understanding of HTML/CSS and best practices
This is a full-time position at our headquarters in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, NYC. To understand our culture, we’re progressive and push the limits, and we have a great, young, vibrant office where we love to come and work hard. Except when we’re drinking beers and playing Rockband in our lounge on Friday afternoons.
To apply: Please submit resume with cover letter to jobs@animoto.com with subject line Web/Graphic Designer.
