OpenTable needs talented engineers to join our Electronic Reservation Book team. This team is responsible for a number of products, including our high-performance caching server, message server, database validator, and the client and server components of the ERB.
The Sr. UI Software Engineer will report to the Director of ERB Engineering. This role requires architectural skill, substantial coding experience, and an interest in leading development of critical products for a rapidly growing Internet company.
This role is both client and server-side.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the design, development and maintenance of Win32 C++ client and server products (services mediating traffic between website and client/server software installed at customers locations)
Develop and enhance advanced client UI
Design and extend database schemas and T/SQL stored procedures
Develop and extend new database schema and code in support of product features
Tune and troubleshoot scaling product issues
Work closely with multiple teams to coordinate feature development, integrate shared components and guide other teams releasing your software
Provide leadership in technology and software development processes
Work closely with and mentor other engineers in the team
Own one or more core software product/services, including their design, implementation, and deployment
Coordinate with multiple stakeholders and negotiate features within agile milestones
Develop technical specifications and lead reviews of those specs
Review test plans and guide QA and automation engineers on proper integration testing of new features
Work closely with engineering management to estimate effort for product release cycles and roadmap
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
7+ years of commercial software development experience
Deep Win32 C++ API knowledge, including XML, XPath, File I/O, encryption and decryption, ATL/STL, and GDI/GDI+
Experience writing SQL server stored procedures in T/SQL
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server
Experience executing queries using ODBC or ADO
At least 3 years experience working with scalable, high performance client/server infrastructure
Strong background in object oriented design and development
Significant experience developing and owning major revisions to an entire software product
Experience with a wide range of common protocols including but not limited to HTTP, FTP, and SMTP
Experience in designing software to be robust, extensible and maintainable
Passion for collaborating with talented engineers to create innovative and new products in a fast-paced and challenging environment
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Bachelors degree in technical field required (CS, CE, ME, EE, Math, Physics, etc.)
