University Relations (UR) builds enduring relationships, resources, and understanding that en-able UC Santa Cruz to provide educational opportunities, create knowledge, and transform lives. UR works closely with internal and external constituencies of the campus, including trustees of the UC Santa Cruz Foundation, the Alumni Council, and other support groups of the University. Comprised of Donor Relations and Development Programs, Strategic Philanthropy Government Relations, Communication and Marketing, and UR Operations and Planning, the UR division provides leadership, strategic planning, and central services in the areas of development, alumni relations and outreach, fundraising, government and community relations, news media relations, marketing and publications (both electronic and print), campus Web development, special events, and the UCSC Ticket Office. In addition, UR provides support for the UC Santa Cruz Foundation, a separate not-for-profit corporation in the state of California.
The Communications and Marketing (C&M) department at the University of California, Santa Cruz, is responsible for advancing the university’s national reputation by creating and deploying a diverse array of communications that inform all key audiences about faculty teaching and re-search, report on the varied accomplishments and activities of its students, staff and alumni, and illuminate the university’s most distinctive qualities and attributes. The communications field is very dynamic, and C&M makes it a priority to ensure that its many forms of communication capitalize on this dynamic environment. The unit is also a key player in University Relations’ ongoing strategic planning.
Summary Statement:
Under the direction of the Senior Web Developer and in consultation with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Communications and Marketing (AVC C&M) and the Director of Issue Management, the web developer is part of a team that manages UCSC’s official web presence by designing, producing, and maintaining the campus home page, associ-ated upper-level pages, and numerous other audience and subject pages.
The web developer helps provide ongoing assessment of web content, information archi-tecture, navigation, interactivity, design, and overall quality and makes recommendation about potential state-of-the-art improvements that will promote and advance the campus’s mission and communication objectives. The web developer helps implement these en-hancements.
As assigned, the web developer serves on campus committees charged with ensuring that the campus’s communication objectives are carried out most effectively throughout the UCSC web site. In the course of doing this, the web developer works with the Senior Web Developer and other web developers on campus to ensure that technical solutions are put in place to serve these communication objectives, and that these solutions are aligned with established strategic goals and policies.
Qualifications include:
•Experience working in an institutional setting and/or familiarity with the university environment.
•Experience designing, building, testing, and deploying HTML email.
•Understanding of User Experience and Interaction Design Principles.
•Experience with server-side code such as PHP, ASP, Java, or Ruby on Rails.
•Experience creating and editing video, audio, or other rich media for the web.
