Tutor Job Description:
Tutor Corps, the Bay Area’s premier tutoring company, is looking to hire dynamic and flexible educators. We have immediate positions open for tutors that can work on the Peninsula (Palo Alto, Woodside, Hillsborough), San Francisco and Marin County. We are specifically seeking tutors who can teach:
*standardized test preparation (SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT)
*high school level math (algebra 1 + 2, geometry, calculus, statistics), science (biology, chemistry, physics)
Ideal candidates will have worked extensively in the education field. All Tutor Corps tutors must have a B.A./B.S. (or higher) degree from an elite university, possess excellent interpersonal skills, have at least two years of tutoring and/or teaching experience and be committed to providing educational opportunities for all students. Special consideration will be given to candidates who possess a current CA teaching credential. Part time work is available (5hr min. and 15 hr max. per week). Tutors must have a car and be willing to commit to working until at least June, 2011.

We offer tutoring in almost all subjects from grades K-12, SAT/ACT/SSAT tutoring, and college essay assistance. Tutor Corps is a family run educational service provider that works with students of all backgrounds and abilities, including those with different learning styles, learning challenges (ADD/ADHD), and health issues. We help students develop their academic potential and teach them vital organization and study skills. Our mission is to increase motivation, improve academic performance and instill a love of learning in all of our students.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have at least a BA or BS from an elite university and a minimum of two years of teaching and/or tutoring experience. Over half of our tutors also possess an advanced degree and/or teaching credential. Tutors must be able to travel to students’ homes, possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to clearly and effectively teach all students. We have an immediate need for educators with the skills to tutor high school level math (algebra 1 + 2, geometry, calculus, statistics) and science (biology, chemistry, physics). Tutors may work in Peninsula communities (Palo Alto, Woodside, Hillsborough), San Francisco or Marin County. Our pay rate is $36-$50 depending on experience and education, which is, as far as we know, the highest in the industry.
Position Overview:
All tutors are employed as independent contractors. As a contract tutor, you will provide tutoring services for students from kindergarten through 12th grade in a variety of content areas, as well as learning skills such as study strategies, organization, motivation, and confidence
Your primary responsibility will be the educational development of your students. This includes educational assessment, curriculum planning and prep and doing focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. Additionally, you are responsible for appropriate communication with the parents and teachers of the student, including management of your own scheduling, recording of hours billed and regular progress reports. In order to maintain Tutor Corps’ professional standards, each tutor is expected to participate in regular meetings (in person and by phone) with the Directors and consult as necessary with other Tutor Corps colleagues.
