StyledOn, a fashion start-up, is looking for a talented, ambitious software developer to join our team and play a key role in building our vision and brand online. As our first and only in-house developer, you will be responsible for owning the codebase and implementing best practices as you develop new features and functionality with the goal of establishing StyledOn as a premier fashion and lifestyle site.
Qualifications:
- Write well-structured, easily maintainable, well-documented code. (Be able to show samples you’re proud of.)
- 2+ years object-oriented Ruby on Rails experience in a production environment, with a strong understanding of MVC and ORM concepts.
- 2+ years front-end, cross-browser UI development with JavaScript (jQuery framework), CSS (SASS framework), and standards-compliant XHTML (HAML framework).
- 2+ years MySQL experience constructing efficient and optimized queries, with tuning as needed.
- Able to code without a formal specification (without sacrificing code quality or thoroughness).
- Experience deploying RoR applications to production using Phusion Passenger or Capistrano.
- Experience administering Web (Apache) and database (MySQL) servers, including configuration, troubleshooting, etc.
- Knowledgeable in SEO strategies.
- Experience integrating with popular third-party web services and APIs (REST, SOAP, etc.).
- Experience integrating analytics tracking and ad serving.
- Proponent of unit testing, using version control (SVN, Git, etc.), and other best practices.
- Fully proficient in a Linux (Ubuntu) environment.
- Experience profiling and optimizing code.
- Strong documentation skills.
- Entrepreneurial minded to be able to contribute ideas and communicate ways new technology can positively influence business.
- Self-motivated and takes initiative to stay abreast of new technologies and industry best practices.
- BS in CS or related field.
Bonus:
- Experience and familiarity with Agile, Scrum, or Test-Driven Development methodologies.
- Experience with automated build/release processes and tools.
- Contributor to open source projects, RoR plugins, or Ruby gems.
- Comfortable using design patterns, and can identify where they’re appropriate.
- Experience developing e-commerce sites.
- Experience designing and/or implementing caching strategies.
- Familiarity with Amazon S3 Web Service.
- Ability to code visual designs into cross-browser compatible, valid XHTML and CSS.
- Experience developing for mobile devices/platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Own, maintain, and refactor existing codebase.
- Design, develop, test, and document new features and functionality according to business needs and product vision.
- Troubleshoot and resolve bugs as well as performance and security issues.
- Administer and ensure reliability and up-time of servers and site as traffic grows.
- Serve as our technology adviser and innovator.
