Dear Univ Grads of 2009 & 2010 (N.County/S.D./MissionVlly/E.County)

Dear University Graduate of 2009 and 2010,

Welcome to the real world :) I’m Class of ’06, UC Berkeley. I graduated with a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies: Anthropology and Psychology. It was a wonderful experience, but they didn’t teach me anything about making money in this world. At the end of my four years I had 2 options: 1) Go to graduate school and become an underpaid teacher OR 2) Start at the bottom of a company in a recession and slowly work my way up in the company, very slowly.

I chose option 2. After 6 months of sending out tons of resumes and pouring time into making my cover letters glow with perfection, and receiving few replies, and dealing with the jokers at a few various Employment Agencies, I finally walked into a beautiful Department clothing store, met the Sales Manager then and there and got a job. They promised me a much higher earning potential than I found to be realistic (the highest paid associate who had been there for 2 years there was making 5k less than what they told me I could realistically make in my first year). It was fun for the first 2 months, learning all about Men’s Fine Tailored Suits, how they are made, how they are tailored to fit the man, and the various designers. The learning curve soon dropped off, and I no longer looked forward to going to work to learn something new. All I had to look forward to now was sales. By the second month I was acknowledged as top Sales Associate in the entire Men’s Department, and #7 in the entire department store. That felt great, and it was nice to receive a little extra commission but every month I went deeper into debt to pay my bills — San Diego ain’t cheap. Now retail clothing is probably the last product one should be selling in a recession. Many days I felt sorry for the customer who was getting pounced by several hungry Salespeople on a slow day. It also kind of sucked when I did hit the big numbers, because I had to deal with fellow associates trying to bring me down out of jealousy (jealousy is such a silly emotion, I am thankful I no longer have to be surrounded by it). Why couldn’t they just be happy for me as I was for them when they had a great sales week??? In short, I was underpaid and surrounded by drama.

Lucky for me, after working at that place for just over a year, I got laid off. I was consistently a top salesman, so the only thing I can figure is they wanted to cut back and I was one of the youngest in the company. It was no doubt scary at first, but all along I knew it was a blessing in disguise. I began looking on Craigslist for jobs. One night within my first couple weeks of looking I came across this ad:

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/sls/1846870165.html

After reading about the product and service, checking out their A+ rating at the bbb.org, and feeling quite inspired by how the company pays its Associates, I called the phone number and left a message. Keith, the Owner of Alarm2000, called me back the next day. We had a pleasant conversation. He was obviously a nice guy who wanted me to be successful, and I felt I could learn a lot from him, so I agreed to meet with him the next day at a cafe. By the second week on the job I was making plenty of money to want to stay. And the rest is history!

I now pay my bills with ease and then some. In fact I’m now writing you from my brand new toy: the newest MacBook Pro. It is so sweet. It makes NO noise when it runs! A miracle compared to my old HP laptop! More importantly though, I feel I’m in the driver seat of my financial future for the first time ever. As an employee of a retail company, I felt doomed. Maybe in 3 or 4 years they would promote me to manager and I’d have to work even harder to keep everyone happy. Now, I work less time, get paid more, and enjoy the freshness of each new day on the job! The only person I compete with now is myself. Each day I must choose to greet my day with faith, opportunity and abundance in mind, and consistently let go of any fears. It is my attitude that is the key to my success; quite different than the old game of impressing this person, and sucking up to that person. It’s about creating a good working relationship with my customer, earning their trust, then exchanging something they genuinely want for a relatively small amount of money. The product and service sells itself. Oh, and when I need time off, I take it. I don’t have to beg anyone.

Now, commission sales positions can be scary at first, but with Alarm2000 it gets better quickly. Once you’ve seen within the first couple weeks that you CAN be successful and that your company does pay you 200 per deal plus an extra 200 bonus when you get your 4th deal for the week, and that it’s very doable, you’ll be hooked. AND I’ll close your deals for you for the first few weeks while you’re learning the ropes (that’s $200 per deal!). IN FACT – No B.S. – my newest Trainee just made over $1000 in her 1st week!!! By no means has she mastered anything yet. She simply put in the time this week (about 25 hours). For those who succeed, there is a far better earning potential than any salaried position most University graduates will enter into these days. Give me 2 weeks, at least 20 hours per week. If you’re not earning a decent income by week 2, you can look for other work. If you’re not making A LOT of money by week 4, you can look for other work. I call it the A2K Challenge :)

I believe in you. Now you only need to believe in yourself. If you’re game, CALL me at 619.717.1120 before my 2 remaining trainee positions are filled.

Best wishes,

Ryan McNeely

Marketing Director

p.s. There is no one type of salesperson. To be successful you only need to like people, and genuinely want good things for them. We don’t finagle or hurt anyone to get what we want. I have seen all types of people be successful at what I do. Women and men are encouraged to apply, no matter race, culture, or nationality.
