Software Engineer with C++ / Medialets / New York, NY

Medialets/New York, NY

Medialets is the leader in the high growth market of rich media advertising and analytics for mobile devices. We deliver award-winning technology to publishers that powers marketers to achieve incomparable brand engagement. Our ads leverage capabilities that get consumers excited about devices such as iPhone and Android platforms and results in the highest effectiveness for brands and best CPMs for publishers. Mobile has finally become a superior platform for marketers and Medialets makes that possible.

We’re a team of top Internet professionals with proven track records in successfully building and growing world-class businesses, including DoubleClick, Pointroll, Palm, Proxicom, NetGravity, digitalNATION and more.

Having launched our first paid product just a few months ago, Medialets has already achieved significant industry success and buzz with our uniquely engaging mobile rich media ad technology and services.

About the Job

This is a key role in our server engineering team. You'll be building both iterative and substantial revisions to our flagship tracking, reporting, and ad-serving tools and will have an integral role in our engineering organization. You'll have the opportunity to interact with, teach and learn from many experienced developers working on emerging mobile, analytics, data processing, and ad serving platforms.

We are looking for someone to provide innovative solutions to scale and build rock-solid code for reliable server systems. Our clients expect us to lead and we work hard to deliver reliable and timely information and a phenomenal end user experience.

Performance analysis and tuning will also be a significant responsibility in your job – with our large transactional volume, every last bit of performance counts. You should be able to step back and look at a problem in different light to identify an approach that improves performance.

About You

You studied computer science (or another tech-heavy science/engineering field) in school and can proudly claim that you spent more than your share of late nights bathed in the glow of compiler output.

You have a track record writing multi-threaded code and experience with synchronous and asynchronous code.

Algorithms and data structures are your friends.

You see problems as opportunities and have what it takes to effectively communicate, brainstorm and collaborate to work through them.

You're more than comfortable with *nix-based operating systems.

Skills
•You pose knowledge and experience in at least 3 different languages (i.e. C++, Java, Ruby). We are a 100% Linux shop though if you have Windows experience we would see this as another way you can show us how you tackle and solve problems with your code.
•The software you will be building is server side providing the connective interfaces for mobile devices using our SDKs (e.g. Android, iPhone). Our solution is based on Asynchronous Pooling and you must show your knowledge and experience with having done this to provide highly performant and cost effective systems.
•The systems behind our server side interfaces are focused on large data processing and aggregation. These systems are fundamentally an event processing solution for automated output based on the data feeds we create through the connective interfaces.

•Ultimately we utilize SQL once our event processing is complete. Your knowledge and experience with databases (DDL & DML) are a must. If you have used NoSQL systems before that is great but not a requirement.
•Experience with web application development, although stateful experience is much more interesting to us than stateless.
•Experience with data analytics & BI processing and tools – strong statistical background & interest.

•Big bonus points for experience using scalable data processing tools such as Hadoop.

Join Our Team !! Email your resume to john.ball@medialets.com

Acuity Mobile, a leading provider of mobile marketing solutions, is seeking a talented Software Developer to join our team in perfecting the administrative and mobile interface code for a large-scale, high volume, advertising and content application platform.

We are seeking a very special kind of developer – someone who can think like a creative, intuitive designer as well as a logical, meticulous coder at the same time.

This is not a design job, although a designer with the appropriate programming experience would be an excellent candidate (ie. There’s no Photoshop involved)

Tinkerers, hackers, open-source advocates, Digg-readers, Slashdot posters, startup veterans and basement experimenters tired of staid and static systems, whose broad skills are being underutilized are especially encouraged to apply.

NO RECRUITERS PLEASE – WE ARE NOT PAYING FEES.

NO OFFSHORE OR OUTSOURCING AGENCIES.

Ask yourself these questions before applying to Acuity:

  1. Have you tried YUI, Prototype, Scriptalicious, jQuery or other similar frameworks and wish you could apply them to the latest mobile devices, administrative interfaces, and customer-facing sites on a daily basis?
  2. Do the concepts of graceful degradation and progressive enhancement factor into your thinking when implementing user interfaces?
  3. Have you implemented complex, AJAX user interfaces as well as simple, text-based interfaces connected to the same back-end codebase?
  4. Do you want to join a team of like-minded, dedicated professionals working on the cutting edge of mobile application design, development and real-world implementations?

If while answering the above questions you find yourself exclaiming, YES! YES! FINALLY SOMEONE GETS IT! then you might be The One.

We are seeking an entrepreneurial-minded individual to work in a highly creative, energetic work atmosphere. You should possess a passion for a fast-paced environment and an ability to innovate and lead. You must be able to turn on a dime, persist and sometimes fail, but ultimately feel the desire to try new things and push the boundaries.

Candidate must be a US Citizen or possess a green card, must be fluent in English and must reside in the Baltimore/Washington area. You will be working on-site in our Greenbelt, Maryland offices near the University of Maryland, College Park.

We will not sponsor visa candidates – please do not apply if you require a visa.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the entire life-cycle of development working with project managers directly
  • Write, debug and document user interface code
  • Provide technical service and support for clients/applications
  • Research and report on new technologies and methodologies
  • Translate customer requirements into implementation specifications

Some of the Skills We Are Seeking:

  • 3-5 years in Web User interface programming (Javascript, CSS, XHTML). Raw code editing, not using tools or code-generators.
  • 2-3 years writing original code in a Web scripting language (PHP, Perl, Ruby), implementing reusable server-side applications.
  • Expert understanding of the latest Web Standards (HTML5, XHTML, CSS, XML, XSL, Javascript, JSON, RSS)
  • Experience working in teams using version control tools (Subversion) and bug tracking/project tools
  • A plus if you have experience working writing parsers, bots, RSS-type tools, XML transforms, and/or session-based projects.
  • Big plus if you have skills using a major framework package (Zend, Smarty, Rails, etc.).
  • Big, big plus if you’ve written WAP or XHTML sites for viewing on mobile phones.
  • Strong English writing, reading and verbal communications skills

Education:

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Web/Interactive Design or related technical subject from an accredited college or university

Join Get Satisfaction!

Get Satisfaction is people-powered customer service for absolutely everything, a vast network of customer communities in use by millions of monthly users and over 20,000 companies. We’re growing like gangbusters because we harness the power of the network and social media to captivate people. It’s a system in which casual users, dedicated experts, and company employees all come together to answer questions, solve problems, and share ideas with each other. The business is on track to fundamentally change the way companies and customers relate to each other — to make those relationships more meaningful and productive.

We are looking for an experienced software engineer with a strong background in Ruby, Rails, and JavaScript to help improve and extend a web application that supports heavy traffic and is already fairly complex. Like everyone else on our team, you should be a great generalist, eager to learn new things and use the best tools for the job. You’ll be working on a large-scale application used by millions of people, so an aptitude for developing elegant, scalable, robust, and maintainable code is a must.

We are an agile shop. We pair program, test-drive all code, and work at a sustainable pace. Our schedule lives in Pivotal Tracker and is as accurate as possible. We hold regular retrospectives to improve our development process. We’re looking for engineers who are excited to engage in this style of work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Extend and refine our web application using Ruby on Rails, MySQL, JavaScript, and other technologies
  • Optimize and scale our system to support millions of users
  • Refactor our code base to incrementally improve its design
  • Develop all code test-first using RSpec, Cucumber, and RR

Required skills:

  • Strong experience programming in Ruby
  • Deep experience in JavaScript (actual programming, not mere use of frameworks)
  • Ability to produce highly polished web pages in semantic HTML and non-invasive CSS and JS
  • Strong general software development abilities
  • Knowledge of application server and database clustering
  • Experience working with databases (MySQL preferred)

Required qualities:

  • Ability to try and do new things to solve interesting problems
  • Willingness to improve your skills and get outside of your comfort zone in order to improve the product
  • Ability to work well in small design groups and contribute to the direction of the product and technology
  • Willingness to critically analyze code to find its strengths and weaknesses
  • Commitment to continually improving the team’s development process

Desired skills:

  • Experience with pair programming
  • Experience with test-driven development (particularly TDD in JavaScript and BDD using Cucumber)
  • Accurate schedule estimation
  • Experience deploying and launching real-world applications

Why Get Satisfaction?

We’re building a product that works well both for consumers and businesses. Our customers enjoy using our product and get a lot of value out of it. We love creating useful and usable software, and we have a lot of fun doing it.

Besides building something meaningful, here’s why you’ll love working here:

  • We’re a rapidly growing, revenue-generating start-up: it’s fun, dynamic, and you will make a difference
  • We are committed to Agile best practices, and cultivate cross-functional development. For reals.
  • The team is super sharp, with no bureaucracy or office politics in sight
  • We work in an open office (no cubes here!) directly on South Park in San Francisco: a short bus, MUNI, BART, or car ride away from most of the city and walking distance from music, art galleries, restaurants, apartments, night life, and the best French food in the city.
  • We’re funded by a syndicate of well known and very supportive investors, including O’Reilly Alphatech Ventures, First Round Capital, Softtech VC, Mitch Kapor, and Freestyle Capital.
  • We offer competitive compensation and benefits, including stock options
