Lead Programmer — Sports-themed casual games start-up (Los Angeles)

Job Description: Lead Programmer – Sports-themed casual games

Early stage Los Angeles-based start-up seeks a Lead Programmer to design, build, test and document the development of multiple sports-themed online casual games (primarily trivia/knowledge-based), for the Web, social networks and mobile distribution.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Developing a scalable solution to handle hundreds of thousands of users

• Creating the basic framework to support multiple iterative game developments – i.e. “not recreating the wheel” each time a new title is developed

• Responsible for the full engineering lifecycle of each game title, including requirements design, technical design, task estimation, implementation, testing, debugging and deployment

• Work with a front-end developer, and coordinate with designer and business development

• Development and integration of social networking tools (i.e. player affiliation based on being fan/rival of various real-world teams) that will be utilized in each game

A successful candidate should be prepared to handle all aspects of building functional, consumer-oriented (i.e. heavily interactive) applications. Experience in game development and particularly the casual games space is a plus. A degree in Computer.Science or Computer.Engineering is also a plus.

We currently have an initial product in development, and are looking for someone to lead and lay the groundwork for successive releases. The ideal candidate would be fluent in both Python and PHP, but if you are the right fit and strong in alternative platforms, we are open to discussion.

While not required, having an interest in and knowledge of sports is highly preferred. It will also be a lot more fun that way!

WHO ARE WE?

The two founders have been working in the interactive sports entertainment field since 1992. Together, we have launched a casual games company that was acquired by a NASDAQ-listed company, and have also developed some of the most popular sports games available online for major portals and sports league and team sites. Sports and casual gaming is what we do – and we believe there is a significant opportunity in this space that is begging to be exploited.

WHAT ARE OUR PLANS?

Suffice it to say that we’re NOT the typical casual game developer, targeting stay-at-home housewives age 35-50. We will develop sports-themed, knowledge-based, fan/rival affiliation-driven gaming experiences. If you’re not interested in making clones of Diner Dash or yet another match-3 game, you definitely want to talk to us.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

As one of the first key technology hires, you will be getting in at the start and have the opportunity to influence the product and business as we work towards launching a compelling (and profitable) entertainment and gaming business. We are currently prefunding and are looking for the right tech gurus to complete our initial development team. You’ll get an equity position in the company, with a salary to follow once we are able to secure funding for the venture.

WHAT ELSE?

We are based in LA, and candidates from the SoCal area are preferred. However, if you are a superstar and a perfect fit for the role, we’re open to working with you on a remote basis.

We believe this is an exceptional opportunity, and we are looking for a truly exceptional person. If we’ve gotten your interest and you think you’re a great fit for the position, let’s talk.

We are the web’s most comprehensive math site , offering a dynamic and fun environment for children (pre-k through 8th grade) to practice math. Not only do we encourage kids to learn math (at their own grade level,) we provide them with nice incentives to keep on practicing by offering them awards when they excel. Each grade level has its own themed game boards, filled with many different awards, so practicing math is like one big treasure hunt. Every time a kid achieves one of his math goals, he has a surprise waiting. In first grade’s jungle game board, she might unlock a wild animal, or in the kindergarten toyland game board, she could stumble upon a toy box.
