Software Dev Engineer, Product Ads UI Optimization (Seattle, WA)

Software Dev Engineer, Product Ads: UI Optimization

Amazon.com’s Product Ads team is looking for exceptional software engineers to build a distributed ad-rendering fleet, and to optimize configurable ad display components that will be displayed on the Amazon.com website as well as on external sites across the web.

Product Ads is a cost-per-click advertising program designed to provide Amazon.com customers seamless access to products available on external Web sites.  Our challenge on the front-end is to improve the click-thru-rate (CTR) of our ads, expand the number of placements that we support, and reduce the rendering latency of our ads.  We are looking for self-directed front-end engineers to build a highly-scalable, distributed ad-rendering fleet, and to build experimental widget treatments to improve ad monetization. This involves implementing new UI elements, testing the changes, analyzing the results, and iterating. It also involves building brand new placements, measuring the results, and choosing optimal placements. The result will be a measurable improvement in CTRs, with a direct impact on the bottom line.

Product Ads is breaking fresh ground, pioneering a crucial platform for future Amazon growth. This is high-profile business unit, with support and interest from all parts of Amazon and top management. We are entrepreneurial and have a bias for action with a broad mandate to experiment and innovate.   As part of this team you will have the satisfaction of seeing your work on the Amazon.com website and beyond, where it will be viewed by millions of customers and will drive quantifiable (and significant!) increases to Product Ads revenue.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

Strong computer science background: a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science is required. Desire to analyze data while developing solutions to problems. Experience in Perl, Java, Object Oriented Design and familiarity with application and database programming under UNIX/Linux. Proficiency with HTTP Protocol, REST, XML, J2EE, Javascript, and AJAX. Experience with large database driven applications and/or distributed computing. Highly innovative, flexible and self-directed. Solid communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team of researchers, engineers, and business managers to deliver exceptional value

If you enjoy broadening your technical skills, building a new business, and working in an environment that thrives on creativity, experimentation, and product innovation, then this is the job for you!
