Sr Java Engineer (Spring, JAXRS, JMS) Salary AND Equity (San Francisco, CA)

Are you an experienced Java developer?  Would you love to build the next generation highly-scalable, low-latency distributed system on the Cloud? Does the idea of building a cross-social network “Social Query API” intrigue you? Does reading the Servlet 3.0 spec excite you?  If so, we have the perfect job for you.

About Us. We are a well-funded yet early-stage start-up. We are solving an interesting problem in a huge market, namely how to leverage social media to drive product sales online. We’re backed by top tier Silicon Valley investors, including Founders Fund, the original seed investors in Facebook. We are moving to bigger offices but have committed to an office within walking distance of Caltrain and BART.

Our Business. Our service helps consumers find compelling products based on information shared by friends. Imagine a day when you could do a Google search on “digital cameras” and get back a list of the cameras your friends have purchased in the last five years. That’s the problem we are solving! Our business model is to utilize social content around products to drive sales for online retailers and receive a commission on the sales generated. We already have a number of marquee customers (millions of page-views daily) and have recently raised VC funding from a great group of investors

Our Technical Challenge. High Scale (thousands of requests per second). Low latency (300ms max per request). High data-recency (<1min old). Low cost. Gigabytes of data per day. Providing an external 3rd Party API. Hundreds of inbound data feeds. High front-end developer productivity.

Our Culture. High Performance (fast, agile, clever). Accountable (we trust each other to deliver). Fun (we love what we do and take pride in our work). We work hard but also have a life outside the office.

About You. You are looking for the next challenge. You excel at Java.  You know the pros and cons of its many tools — including Spring, JAX-RS, JMS (especially ActiveMQ and HornetQ), etc… You thrive in working in a small team collaborative environment.

The Reward. Ground-floor equity with a real pay-check. Fantastic team. Your work visible to millions of users – in months, not years. Pride in building something net new — both technology and a company.

Are you up for the challenge? If so, send us your resume — we look forward to speaking with you.

Java Software Engineer for Major League Baseball Advanced Media (Chelsea)

Java Software Engineer for Major League Baseball Advanced Media

Job Label: MLBAM-JAVANY

MLB Advanced Media (yes, MLB as in Major League Baseball) is looking for talented Java developers. Our incredibly public website is very feature oriented, and we have plenty of exciting projects for you to take on. We’re a very collaborative, smart, and fun group of technologists, using the latest technologies and applying them in the real world. For the baseball fan, this is an opportunity to shape the industry in a big way; and even if baseball is not your passion, the visibility and exhilaration this role presents is hard to find elsewhere. This position presents you with not only the chance to work for a one-of-a-kind company, but also to participate in projects that will be used by millions of people around the globe.

MLB Advanced Media (MLBAM) is the Internet and interactive media arm of Major League Baseball (MLB) and operates the league’s Web site, MLB.com. The site, which draws an audience of more than four million people each day, offers news, schedules, standings, and statistics from around the league as well as information on each of MLB’s 30 teams. The site also provides live audio and video game broadcasts for subscribers. In addition to subscription fees, MLBAM generates revenue through advertising and sponsorships, along with ticket sales through its Tickets.com subsidiary. The baseball league created MLBAM in 2000 through a unanimous vote of all 30 teams.

As a Java Engineer for MLB Advanced Media in our New York City office, your primary task will be to apply existing technologies to deliver new products and upgrades by creating scalable code that talks to different systems internally. Your ability to grasp requirements from multiple conversations and synthesize the pertinent information will assist you in bringing order to the process and advancing projects towards successful deployment. Most of the projects will have very short deployment cycles (a long cycle for us is two months), thereby keeping your work fresh and interesting. On top of your superior Java coding skills, experience and comfort with unit testing, debugging production issues, object/relational mapping (JDBC, Hibernate, etc.), Web services (REST, SOAP, etc.), and messaging middleware will afford you the foundation from which to establish yourself as a valuable resource. Your aptitude for doing more than simply coding (functioning at times as a BA and/or a PM), plus a knack for thinking outside of the box will enable you to properly view our technology and products and suggest further innovation.  This is a singular opportunity to enhance the skills in your career portfolio in a dynamic, unique and collaborative working environment.
