Electrical Engineer (Chicago, IL (60606))

CDM is a privately owned, global, full-service consulting, design/build engineering, construction, and operations firm helping public and private clients improve the environment and infrastructure through award-winning projects. Since 1947, we have been providing innovative solutions developed through strong client relationships of mutual trust and respect and a commitment to quality and integrity. From a three-person firm in Cambridge to today’s staff of more than 4,000 worldwide, CDM has grown and diversified with our clients’ needs in mind. Our mission is to reach one goal – the client’s – by providing the right total solutions.

CDM prides itself in developing and retaining high quality staff. We are in search of a motivated entry level engineer that has developed excellent fundamental skills in electrical engineering during formal academic training and is willing to work and continue learning in a team environment. Using both on the job training and selected in-house training courses you will develop your overall skills. You will work within a team concept, first working with mentoring senior engineers and then gradually branching out to work on projects as the electrical lead. At CDM you will have the opportunity to develop business skills by assisting in the development of proposals, meeting clients and overseeing engineering budgets, technical skills through design and training courses and constructability skills through field observation and design/build tasks.

Our Electrical Practice is eighty-five plus members strong, located in twelve offices across the globe. Our domestic electrical groups are located in: Albany, NY; Cambridge, MA; Chicago, IL; Columbus, OH; Dallas, TX; Irvine, CA; Orlando, FL; Phoenix, AZ; Pittsburgh, PA; St. Paul, MN; and Walnut Creek, CA. Our geographical distribution of staff allows CDM to attract and retain the best available staff in the industry while providing local client support. Common design guidelines and practices coupled with state of the art technology allow us to work seamlessly among the groups and essentially around the clock with the integration of our international staff.

The expectations of this position are for you to perform at the entry level of professional work, which will require utilizing your formal training in performing basic electrical engineering tasks and to develop your personal engineering design knowledge and abilities for advancement to the next level. This position requires a variety of routine technical tasks in which to build experience and to gain familiarization with CDM’s engineering methods, practices, standards and company programs. Certification as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) by successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination is desired.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Developing drawings for electrical systems (power, controls, communications, fire alarm, and security) using AutoCAD.
• Performing electrical calculations using power systems analysis software.

• Performing lighting design and illumination simulations using lighting systems analysis software.

• Assisting in the development of electrical plan drawings and single line diagrams.

• Reviewing shop drawings and assist with general construction services.

• Limited field assignments to assist an experience engineer and to allow the successful candidate to become familiar with equipment specified.

Job Requirements:
• 0-1 years of experience since B.S. (Power Engineering Option is preferred)

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point)

• Familiarity with AutoCAD/MathCAD software a plus.

• Candidate must have excellent writing and communication skills.

Recognition by respected professional organizations, such as the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, the American Council of Engineering Companies, and the Design-Build Institute of America, is a testament to CDM’s delivery of exceptional service and the right total solutions for each client’s needs. Other ideal attributes:
- Test infected and object obsessed.
- Experience with leading edge web application design and development in a similar work environment.

A college degree is not required.

We offer insurance benefits and a few other perks that may surprise you. We’re also a well-funded startup, so come prepared to surround yourself with other smart cats who love a laugh and aren’t afraid of doing what it takes to change the world.

Note: If you’re one of the rare few that drools at the prospect of solving massive parallel map-reduce problems, or massive scale challenges, then we have an extra special role ready and waiting for you too.

POiU Business Exchange, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
