QA Engineer – (financial district)

QA Engineer

We are looking for passionate and talented QA Engineers to join our growing team in downtown San Francisco and help take the quality of our applications to the next level, with the goal of exceeding our customers’ expectation. Joining the team you will have an immediate impact. You will be given a high level of responsibility and a high degree of freedom. Who are we?
SunRun provides a solution to homeowners who would like to power their residence using solar electricity but do not want to make a significant upfront capital investment or assume the risks, hassles and/or burdens of ownership. Instead, we purchase solar facilities for our homeowners and sell them electricity under long-term contracts. We guarantee electricity production; if anything breaks or needs repair, we fix it; we provide proactive, reliable real-time monitoring; we insure our solar facilities; and even wash them down. We are very well funded, having raised ample corporate funds from Accel Partners and Foundation Capital as well as project financing from US Bancorp.

SunRun is the fastest growing residential solar company in the country and has a mission to bring clean, solar power to the masses. SunRun is unique in that we bring together two exciting areas: Cleantech and Consumer services. This means that not only does our Engineering team work on challenging software architecture and scaling issues, we get to take comfort in the fact that we’re also changing the world – one solar system at a time.

At SunRun, we’re all about bringing clean, solar power to the masses, and it is this singular mission that drives our Engineering team to focus on two simple, but very important things:

1.Reducing the upfront cost of solar. For the Engineering team, this means:
Building a consumer-facing website that allows prospective customers to determine exactly what solar energy would cost per kWh if installed on their home, to learn how systems in their neighborhood perform, and to determine what sort of technology is best in their geography.

Making it brutally easy for our growing network of top-tier installation partners to tap into our proprietary pricing and proposal engine and to offer the lowest priced solar systems on the planet.
2.Making it easy – maybe even fun – for our residential customers and SunRun’s own operations team to oversee how our solar systems are performing. Why? Because increased monitoring == higher performing systems == more clean solar kilowatt-hours == better pricing on future systems. SunRun already owns and monitors at revenue grade more solar facilities than any other company in the country.
What you will do:

Test SunRun’s web-based, multi-tier software applications.

Implement and maintain multiple test platforms.

Work closely with the Development team to isolate and resolve bugs and issues.

Build load testing and web site security test suites.

Perform test execution, including functional (front-end and back-end), regression and integration tests.

Write manual test cases and create test plans.

Work closely with the Development team to propose QA automation hooks in the SunRun application suite.

Report issues and create status reports.

Extend and maintain testing tools and build/release infrastructure.

Detailed filing and tracking of defects using the tracking system.

Ensure that product requirement is clear, correct, and complete.

Ensure that delivered product works as expected.

Collaborate with developers to ensure the test overage is adequate for the requirement.

Write automated tests for web applications with Selenium or similar open-source tools.

Write automated tests for server side component/APIs with Java.

QA Engineer (emeryville)

Lithium is the leading provider of Social CRM solutions to power the customer network. Working with market leaders such as Best Buy, Sony, AT&T, Research In Motion Limited (RIM), Univision, and PayPal, Lithium is delivering the next generation of customer relationships by unlocking the value of the social customer network. Lithium solutions combine the power of online customer communities with the broader social web and traditional CRM business processes to inspire customers to innovate, promote, and support on the company’s behalf. As a result, businesses measurably improve their marketing and sales, accelerate innovation, and increase customer satisfaction. Lithium’s platform is proven in high-volume, growth environments and provides the security, analytics, APIs, and multi-language support that enterprises demand. Founded in 2001, Lithium is privately held with headquarters in Emeryville, California. For more information on Lithium Technologies, visit www.lithium.com.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a software quality assurance engineer to join our team and help build the next generation of online community software. Lithium’s QA engineers love to figure things out for themselves, discover the corner cases, and determine new and creative ways to break things. They enjoy working with online community software and putting themselves in the end-user’s shoes. They learn fast, relish complexity, and stand up for “the way things should work.” They combine visceral loathing of making the same mistake twice with a desire to automate repetitive tasks, and are always trying to find new ways to make themselves and the company more efficient.

What You’ll Do

Lithium is committed to developer testing as an integral driver of software quality. If you’ve worked in places where engineers “throw it over the wall” for the QA team to test, you’ll know what we’re trying to avoid. As the QA engineer for a small agile software team, you will work with developers to design and implement an appropriate test strategy encompassing every aspect of feature development. You will drive the team as a whole to produce the appropriate test plans, encompassing a variety of strategies from manual exploration, white box test automation, upgrade testing and beyond. You will be the first to person witness the emergence of fledgling features and the last person to check that those features are ready for prime time.

Responsibilities:

• Determine the appropriate testing strategy for each Sprint deliverable

• Create test plans and test conditions

• Explore features as they are being developed to identify design, testability and usability issues

• Track test results and deliver a comprehensive assessment of product quality

• Work with Developers to provide an appropriate test environment and tools for testing Sprint deliverables

• Execute manual and automated tests, interpret the results, and diagnose basic test failures

• Set up test environments, reading log files, testing APIs and inspecting databases/data files

• Create issue reports and work with Developers to resolve appropriately

• Represent product quality as part of regular bug triage and release process

Requirements:

• A bachelor’s degree in a technical or analytical subject, including engineering, mathematics, the sciences, or philosophy

• The ability to understand, break, develop, and fix code. Experience with Java and Linux is a plus, but we believe that the right candidates will learn technologies on the job

• Experience working with with Web technologies, including SQL, HTML/CSS, Web servers, or application servers

• Experience working with Mac, Linux, Windows and Mobile Devices

• Community software experience, including forums, blogs, social bookmarking, and social networking

• Strong analytical capabilities – we love people with backgrounds in science or math and people who enjoy puzzles

• A passion for software quality

• A start-up attitude

Lithium prefers to hire for talent and motivation rather than a specific set of skills or number of years’ experience. If you think you have what it takes to make a strong contribution to a great team, send us your resume.

We look forward to hearing from you.
