Major Duties:
Major Duties: Incumbent provides transcription services to VBA regional offices in the Western Area by transcribing verbal testimony provided by veterans and his/her representatives to Decision Review Officers at personal hearings in conjunction with decisions for claims for compensation, pension ancillary benefits. Transcription of the hearing is verbatim and contains all dialogue or exchange of information as offered as part of the official hearing record. Accuracy is paramount as the transcript becomes part of the evidence file critical to the final decision making process. Transcription is prepared using personal computer, standard keyboard and foot operated recording/dictation equipment. Recordings may be on cassette, compact disc or other computer software. Transcription of other dictated material may also be performed as necessary.

Qualifications: Requires one year of general experience.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. General experience is defined as at least one FULL year of clerical or office work that shows an ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills of the position to be filled.

EDUCATIONAL SUBSTITUTION: 2 full years of education above the high school level.

COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: You can meet total qualifications for this job by combining general experience and appropriate education according to the following formula: (a) your total months of full time general experience as a percentage of a 12 month total; PLUS (b) your total number of qualifying semester or quarter hours as a percentage of two years of education above the high school level. The total of the two percentages must equal at least 100 percent.
